The games of today are not just about saving a princess or kicking some ass, they are about an unbeatable experience. An experience that is mesmerizing and a treat for the eyes and to fulfill all these, developers and graphic designers work hard to create a world or an environment visually appealing to eyes and one that gives you an Aww moment. Here are 10 such games with amazing backgrounds that can take your breath away.
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
San Andreas was a big improvement over the last city in the GTA series – Vice City. The new game featured a new city which was not only a treat to watch and experience but was also strategically very sound and beautiful. You could see sun rise and sun set, dry and wet weather, water and land and big skyscrapers while running with a shotgun in your hand and shooting the hell out of everyone.
- Mafia 2
Docks filled with magnificent ships and workers moving the cargo to and fro – the beautiful scenic views of Mafia 2. However, it doesn’t end here! Moving north, away from the dock, a few blocks down are the 2 artistic buildings – the Empire Bay which look beautiful in the morning sun. Around the building are things that will leave you in amazement – a cherry blossom garden that blooms in summer, a yacht club down the river, suburb regions across a bridge and a rich green park in the middle of the city.
- Legend Of Zelda
Although an old one and not so strong when it comes to graphics, Zelda was a game which was too advanced for its time when it came to map and environment. It allowed players to explore various landscapes and towns of the medieval times which were varied and worth a sight.
- DayZ
Setup in a post-Soviet eastern European mood, the landscape consists of mysterious deep valleys and dangerous dense forests. The setup is mostly rural with a few big cities you will come across every once in a while. In the north of the coastal town of Kamyshovo, you have remains of a castle, to the east is an unforgiving dense black forest and to the west are green mountains which are strategically important for the game. All in all, the game has a landscape that contributes a lot to the gameplay experience.
- Arma 3
Hills, plains and forests – these 3 words aptly describe the 270+ square kilometers area of the Arma 3. The towers of Kastro Castle give you a majestic view of the city of Kavala followed by huge solar farm of the Anthrakia Power Plant and the Limni marshes on the banks of Thelos Bay. The game has one more island which is a little smaller in size but just as beautiful as this one. The cities are located on the golden sand next to the blue sparkling water which gives an amazing graphical experience.
- Far Cry 3
The small island of Far Cry 3 is one landscape that I cannot describe in words. The only reason it is not anywhere in the top 3 is because the game is old and new games like Skyrim and Fallout have a wonderful weather which Far Cry lacks. The world in Far Cry 3 is filled with mountains, lush green forests and dangerous animals. The game features a couple of vibrant towns and a lost temple which is nothing less than beautiful.
- Skyrim: The Elder Scrolls V
Into the game and you know the game is unforgiving in nature and is going to be hard. The designers have left no stone unturned to ensure that the weather and surroundings of the game are nothing less than awesome and aptly set the mood as per the plot. From the city gates to the hot sulphur rich hot springs, lush forests to cold tundra – Skyrim has varied landscapes and each of them is worth exploring.
- Red Dead Redemption
The game gives you a feel of Wild American West located somewhere on the Mexican border. The farmers here make a living by raising cattle. To the west of the region is springs followed by a desert-y patch filled with cactuses and prickly pears filled with cougars who will not shy away from attacking you. To the south is the desert on the banks of the river San Luis. East features a ridge which is popular for wolves and on all the sides are bandits who are ready to loot you.
- GTA V
The vibrant metropolitan – Los Santos is perfect for the setup that GTA needs. Sunkissed beaches, tall sky scrapers, the famous vinewood signs – all these make up for the city which hosts the world’s most popular open world game. Move a bit outside the city and you will be on your way to the lush forests and into the mountains. Freely roam around and explore the beauty of the landscape either on foot, or maybe a bike. Keep moving out of the jungle and you will soon be in a desert with an opportunity to explore Alamo Sea.
- Fallout 3
The landscape is set in a post nuclear war Washington DC. The once popular city is now nothing but a wreck of junk and piles of dead bodies filled with mutated animals that are thirsty for your blood. Roam around the city and you will find a few monuments that have survived the war somehow and on the east is Tenpenny Tower, a luxury hotel mocking the devastated city of DC. The town has a small oasis which still has a few trees despite the Nuclear winter which makes for the perfect spot to relax but not for long. The landscape is apt for the plot of the game and thus is beautiful in its own way.
