Unturned: Hey man, can you keep that zombie off my back?
Now here is a game doing something different. It’s difficult to put Unturned into one distinct category because it wears several hats a game, but I suppose it is foremost an MMO. That generalization apart, Unturned is blessed with an easy to use interface that will have players working together to do things like search for supplies, surviving off the land itself and yes, bargaining amongst themselves. So if another player approaches you in this game to ask, “Dude you got my back,” feel free to ask for something in return. Negotiation is important here. You can find this game on STEAM so it’s easy to get started simply by snagging an Unturned STEAM key and setting off.
The graphics are also a big step out of bounds, but I mean that in a good way. They’re different. Refreshing, if you will. A clever mix between Minecraft and Lego games. It’s free to play but for those who can find $5 to spare, you’ll gain admisson to “gold servers.” These will let accumulate experience faster (double the normal rate) and get extra loot drops. You’ll want to avoid playing solo as the developer (who is a sixteen year old kid) seems intent on making you work with other players.
The gameplay focuses on the loot piece and unlike other survival games, you can come across treasures that fit your needs fairly easily. The novelty of discovery will fade fast but what won’t even exist is the frustration of finding something completely worthless in wilderness. Guns, supplies and the like are fairly easy to come by.
You can join servers to access the multiplayer mode and there’s plenty of space on these. With the incredibly simple graphics that come with the territory of such a low budget game, there isn’t much to suck up the bandwidth. Hackers have targeted these servers however and the developer has been doing his best to combat this and update frequently. That’s another reason to drop $5 on the gold package; more dollars equals more reasons for the game to be improved.
Once you get the hang of it, you can construct massive fortifications with the aid of other players. These are essential for dominating the hordes of lego-eaque zombies you’ll be tasked with obliterating. The more sound your structure is, the better chance a survival, and getting more loot and upgrading….the cycle goes on.
Surviving a zombie apocalypse isn’t new, but the formula is tweaked pretty well and although the graphics are a default for a game with this background, it helps it stand out. Plus if you want it to be, it’s free. So don’t worry about looking for an Unturned sale, go get it. And since you likely will be, I’ll just ask now, “Hey man, can you keep that zombie off my back?”

It was a great idea to have a free version and a Gold package because it allows you to play with your friends even if they are unsure about playing with you. $5 for the gold package is nothing in my eyes as it is helping a very young and talented game dev to improve on such a great game.
Awesome Write up.

One of the best Free to play games I have ever downloaded on steam. I have had so much fun running around and driving over zombies with friends. $5 for the Gold package is a great way to help a young developer improve this game for everyone to enjoy!
