There are video games that are designed keeping in mind every type of gamer – from casual to hardcore nerds and that is the reason they have an option that lets you choose the level of difficulty you want to play in BUT then there are games that are made to make you sweat and swear. They are like the devil that has spawned from the depths of hell to drag you in an infinite loop of getting killed at the same spot time and again. These games are the reasons; I sometimes hate being so addicted to video games. Here are 10 video games that have been chosen by Satan himself to destroy the mankind.
- Myst
Myst, released in 1993 is not a game that kills you every now and then, it is a game that will kill your time and make you unavailable for hours. The puzzles in the game demand concentration, sharp memory, creativity and knowledge of the surroundings. The game is not brutal in itself but the fact that it broke marriages and made people lose their jobs surely makes it brutal and satanic.
- Dark Souls
The complete series of souls is considered as one of the most difficult series of video games. The game has all the ingredients of an impossible game – challenging missions, difficult boss fights, confusing levels – everything. Even the lowest level of enemy can eat you like a cupcake. Although hard and punishing, the game is straight fair in terms of gameplay. Constant practice and the game gets a little easy.
- Super Meat Boy
Do not let the cute red monster the game icon features make you think that the game is going to be easy and fun, this little game is a pure devil. The game manages to hide all the difficulty behind the mechanics so you never blame the developers for being harsh but keep on doubting your skills. 10 minutes into this game and you know the game was designed to make the death replays look awesome and not for your fun.
- Ikaruga
Ikaruga is not that hard when you begin a level but as you progress you realize the simple logic based game turns into a swamp of bullets aimed at killing you. Suddenly the black and white colors of the game start demanding godly levels of concentration and control speed. The game maker never wanted you to win anyway.
- F-Zero GX
When this game made debut, there were more than 1 reason to love it. Not only did it lay a foundation for a great game – Mario Kart but it was also an advancement in Nintendo’s technology. However, the smiles soon turned into frowns when the gamers realized that the game is simply straight forward punishing. Most of us had never played a racing game so hard that not many were able to advance to the third level of the game.
- Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels
The traditional Super Mario games start with easy levels but as you progress within the game, the levels get hard but exciting. However, this one particular game was a bit different. It was a game that made you swear right from the first level. The game was so hard that it was originally not launched in the western markets because it was too hard for the people of the west. With increase in the popularity of the game, the sales of controllers too went up; if you know what I mean.
- Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link
The only Zelda game with a horizontally scrolling gameplay, the game is the hardest version in the complete series. With just 1 game before the Adventures of Link in the series, Nintendo had all the space and time to experiment with the gameplay and this game assured them that the world is still not ready for a right to left moving Zelda game. A few things that made the game hard were – short ranged attacks, tricky combats, confusing puzzles and facing the having to face Death Mountain too early in the game.
- Contra
I still remember running behind the spread gun whenever I played Contra. Not because I liked it but because it made the game A LITTLE easier. Even Konami knew 3 lives were not enough to fight the notorious alien forces and thus they included the famous Konami 30 lives cheat code within the game. 30 lives might sound too much for a game but let me tell you, if you have not played this game yet, don’t judge me or any other Contra player who has spent hours beating the deadly bosses with unlimited armor and crazy shooting skills.
- Shinobi
If you own a PS2 and you think you have played all the games and there is nothing left to play, grab a copy of this killer. The game features a fast paced combat where you are the owner of a sword that demands sacrifice and blood constantly and if you fail, you die. The game is not at all a stealthy one and still demands a lot of planning and strategizing; and if you take my advice, do not waste your time, you won’t be able to win.
- Ninja Gaiden (2004)
It is like a nightmare, a bad bad nightmare even the Boogeyman is afraid of. This game is so hard that developers had to actually come up with an easier version of the game for the fans but what makes to this list is the original Ninja Gaiden released in 2004. The game was inspired by Ninja Gaiden (1988) and Devil May Cry 3 and let me tell you the inspiration is simply badass. Thanks to the fast-paced combat and incredibly tough and fast enemies like those dirty dart-throwing ninjas that popped up all over the screen and a big line-up of bosses that made many bosses of other games including Devil May Cry look lame and lazy. Although hard(est) to beat, the game gave you a great sense of achievement when you cleared it.
